Gold Rate Pakistan Today 2026 24K 22K 18K Per Tola Guide

The gold rate in Pakistan changes every day — and it is not only about jewellery: investment, sales tax and the FBR wealth statement are all linked to gold. This guide explains where to see today's gold rate and how far to trust it, the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K, how to calculate the value of your gold, and which taxes apply to gold in Pakistan.

24K 22K 21K 18K — per tola, per 10 grams and per gram. Calculate the value of your gold.

1. How Is the Gold Rate Set in Pakistan?

The gold rate in Pakistan rests on 2 things:

International Spot Price

The dollar price of gold on the London Bullion Market — moved by global supply and demand, US Federal Reserve policy and geopolitical events.

USD/PKR Exchange Rate

The higher the dollar rate, the more expensive gold is in PKR — even if the international price stays the same. That is why PKR depreciation makes gold more expensive.

Two different rates: the sarafa association announces its own benchmark rate every day. The figure on our gold rate page is not a copy of that benchmark — it comes from a third-party market feed. So the two can differ by several thousand rupees per tola. Check the jeweller's or the association's rate before buying or selling.

2. 24K vs 22K vs 21K vs 18K Gold — What Is the Difference?

KaratPurityUseRate*
24K99.9% pureInvestment, bars, coinsMost expensive
22K91.67% pureCommon in jewellery~91.7% of 24K
21K87.5% pureJewelry — middle ground87.5% of 24K
18K75% pureFine, durable jewellery75% of 24K

* By purity — the metal value only. A jeweller's price adds making charges and sales tax on top.

For jewellery buyers: 24K is very soft, so it is used less in jewellery and more for investment (bars, coins). Get a receipt from the jeweller showing the karat, weight and price — it helps both at resale and in your wealth statement.

5. How Much Tax Applies to Gold in Pakistan?

TaxRateWhen, and under which law
Sales Tax (jewellery)3%On the supply of jewellery made in Pakistan; no input tax adjustment (Sales Tax Act 1990, Eighth Schedule, Table-1, serial 78)
Capital GainsOn the gainOn selling jewellery or coins: price minus cost (Income Tax Ordinance, sections 37(2), 37(5)(d), 38(5)); losses not recognised
Wealth StatementNot a tax — a recordA resident individual declares all assets with the return (section 116(2))

No nisab threshold: income tax has no nisab or threshold for declaring gold. If you are a resident individual and file a return, you must list all your gold in the wealth statement. Nisab is a Zakat concept, not an income tax one.

How to Declare Gold in Your Wealth Statement

A wealth statement does not itself impose any tax — it is a record of your assets and liabilities that goes with the return under section 116(2). For gold, keep these points in mind:

  1. List all your gold: jewellery, coins and bars — all of it. In FBR's wealth statement guide, valuables go under the “Precious Possession” field.
  2. Description: state the weight (for example 10 tola) and the type (jewellery / coins / bars) clearly.
  3. Keep your receipts: under section 111(1)(b), if the source of a valuable article is not satisfactorily explained, its value can be added to your income.
  4. Inheritance or gift: keep the papers for gold you inherited or received as a gift too — they are your proof of source.

Enter the value on the basis the IRIS wealth statement form instructs; if in doubt, ask a tax practitioner. The full filing procedure is in our return filing guide.

6. Gold Investment in Pakistan — Benefits and Risks

Benefits of Gold

  • ✅ The international price is in dollars, so when the PKR falls, the PKR price of gold usually rises
  • ✅ A liquid asset — it can be sold for cash when needed
  • ✅ A physical asset — no risk of an institution going bankrupt
  • ✅ Globally recognised — it has value everywhere

Risks

  • ❌ Volatile price — large swings in the short term
  • ❌ Making charges and 3% sales tax on jewellery — usually not recovered when you sell
  • ❌ Storage risk — physical gold can be stolen
  • ❌ No passive income — no rent or dividend
  • ❌ A loss on jewellery is not recognised for income tax (section 38(5))

This is information, not investment advice. When and how much gold to buy depends on your own circumstances.

7. FAQ — Gold Rate Pakistan 2026

What is today's 24K gold rate per tola in Pakistan?

This guide does not show a rate itself — today's rate is on our gold rate page (taxcalcpk.com/gold-rate-pakistan). That figure comes from a third-party market feed and is indicative. The sarafa association announces its own daily benchmark separately, and the two can differ by several thousand rupees per tola. Always check the jeweller's or the association's rate before buying or selling.

How many grams are in one tola in Pakistan?

About 11.664 grams. One tola has 12 masha, so one masha is about 0.972 grams. The international market quotes gold per troy ounce, which is about 31.1 grams.

What is the difference between 24K and 22K gold?

Karat measures the purity of gold (its pure share): 24K is about 99.9% pure, 22K is 22/24 or 91.67% pure, 21K 87.5% pure and 18K 75% pure. In the same proportion, the 22K rate is about 91.67% of the 24K rate. Our calculator derives 22K, 21K and 18K from the 24K rate using the same ratios (0.9167, 0.875, 0.75).

How much tax applies when buying gold in Pakistan?

Under the Eighth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act 1990 (Table-1, serial 78), the supply of articles of jewellery made in Pakistan carries 3% sales tax, with no input tax adjustment. That rate is for jewellery — we have not verified a rate for gold bars or biscuits, so we give no figure for them here.

Is there tax on selling gold?

Yes, if you make a gain. Section 37(5)(d) of the Income Tax Ordinance excludes movable property held for personal use from capital assets, but not items such as jewellery and coins (the section 38(5) list). So the gain on selling them falls under the 'Capital Gains' head: the sale price minus cost (section 37(2)). If you make a loss, section 38(5) does not recognise a loss on jewellery or coins.

Do I have to declare gold in my wealth statement?

Yes, if you are a resident individual and file a return. Section 116(2) requires a wealth statement and wealth reconciliation with the return, covering all assets — there is no nisab or threshold. Nisab is a Zakat concept, not an income tax one. And for a valuable article whose source you cannot explain, section 111(1)(b) allows its value to be added to your income — so keep your receipts.

How do I use the gold value calculator?

On taxcalcpk.com/gold-rate-pakistan, enter your weight, choose the unit (tola, gram, masha or kilogram) and the karat (24K, 22K, 21K or 18K) — the value appears straight away. It is at the feed's rate, not a jeweller's quote; making charges and sales tax are not included.
