USD to PKR Calculator 2026 Dollar Rate Pakistan Guide

The dollar rate in Pakistan changes every day — and it is not only a currency matter: it directly affects PTA mobile tax and overseas remittances. This guide explains how the rate is set, the difference between the interbank and open market rates, which rate our calculator shows, and what overseas Pakistanis need to know.

Convert USD to PKR

11 currencies — USD, GBP, EUR, SAR, AED and more. The day's reference rate.

1. How Is the USD to PKR Rate Set?

“Pakistan has a market based flexible exchange rate system, where the exchange rate is determined by market demand and supply conditions and trend in the exchange rate is generally a reflection of external balance of payment position and other macroeconomic indicators of the country.” — State Bank of Pakistan

Demand and Supply

Demand for dollars to pay for imports, dollars coming in from exports and remittances, and the country's external balance of payments — these set the trend of the rate.

SBP's Role

According to SBP, its intervention is limited to avoiding “disorderly market conditions” and building FX buffers, “without suppressing any underlying trend”.

2. Interbank Rate vs Open Market Rate — What Is the Difference?

ItemInterbank RateOpen Market Rate
How is it set?Demand/supply in the interbank market; authorized dealers “are free to quote their own buying and selling rates” (SBP)Exchange companies set their own counter rates
Where is it used?Between banks, and for foreign exchange transactions through the banking channelCash exchange
Our calculator?Neither interbank nor open market — a public daily reference-rate feed (updated once a day)

Practical tip: our rate is for estimating. An actual transaction uses the rate your bank or exchange company quotes — before a large amount, confirm both the rate and the fee with them.

3. How the Dollar Rate Affects PTA Mobile Tax

Of the four parts of PTA tax, only sales tax is tied to the dollar rate, because it is a percentage of the phone's value. Regulatory duty, the handset levy and section 148 income tax are fixed rupee amounts.

Example — iPhone 15 Pro Max ($505 FBR assessed value)

Dollar RateValue in PKRSales Tax (25%)PTA Tax (filer)
Rs 250/$Rs 126,250Rs 31,563Rs 68,663
Rs 280/$Rs 141,400Rs 35,350Rs 72,450
Rs 300/$Rs 151,500Rs 37,875Rs 74,975

When the dollar moves from Rs 250 to Rs 300, this phone's PTA tax rises by Rs 6,312 — entirely because of sales tax. Sales tax is 25% on phones above $500 and 18% below that.

$505 is the assessed value in FBR's Valuation Ruling 2070/2026 (for old/used phones), not the market price. Our PTA calculator and the currency calculator's PTA estimate both use a stored reference rate (Rs 278, April 2026), so both give the same answer.

4. Overseas Pakistanis — Sending Money to Pakistan

Regulated Channels

  • ✅ Banks and licensed exchange companies
  • ✅ Roshan Digital Account (RDA) — an SBP scheme; according to SBP, transfer charges are roughly $5–$9 when the RDA bank's special BIC is used
  • ✅ Compare both the rate and the fee before sending — the cheapest service can change from transfer to transfer

Caution

  • ❌ Hundi/hawala and unlicensed apps — not a regulated channel
  • ❌ Carrying cash in — customs declaration rules apply; check before you travel

RDA and tax (according to SBP): profit on non-resident Pakistanis' RDA deposits is tax-exempt, but profit on Naya Pakistan Certificates is not tax-free — it bears “full and final tax @ 10 percent”. Tax on property is charged under the Income Tax Ordinance as normal.

5. How to Use the Currency Calculator — Step by Step

  1. Open the currency calculator
  2. Enter the amount — how many dollars (or another currency) to convert; you can also convert the other way (PKR to the currency)
  3. Select the currency — USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SAR, AED, CAD, JPY, CNY, TRY, HKD — 11 options
  4. The rate fills in automatically — the day's reference rate; the calculator shows when it was fetched. If the feed does not load, it shows a stored reference rate and says so clearly
  5. Results: the PKR conversion, and an estimate of PTA tax from a phone's USD value (at the stored reference rate)
  6. Refresh — to fetch the rate again

6. FAQ — USD to PKR Calculator Pakistan

Q1. What is today's USD to PKR rate?

The rate changes every day. TaxCalc PK's currency calculator takes the day's rate from a public reference-rate feed — the feed updates once a day, so it is the day's reference rate, not a minute-by-minute live rate, and it is neither SBP's interbank rate nor the open market (sarafa) rate. The rate your bank or exchange company quotes is the one you will actually get.

Q2. What is the difference between the interbank rate and the open market rate in Pakistan?

According to SBP, Pakistan has a "market based flexible exchange rate system": the rate is set by market demand and supply, and SBP's intervention is limited to avoiding "disorderly market conditions" and building FX buffers. In the interbank market, authorized dealers quote their own buying and selling rates. The open market rate is what exchange companies offer over the counter for cash. So SBP does not "set" a single official rate.

Q3. How does the dollar rate affect PTA mobile tax?

Of the four charges, only sales tax moves with the dollar rate, because it is a percentage of the phone's value. Regulatory duty, the handset levy and section 148 income tax are fixed rupee amounts. Example: on an iPhone 15 Pro Max ($505 FBR assessed value), a filer's PTA tax is Rs 68,663 with the dollar at Rs 250 and Rs 74,975 at Rs 300 — a difference of Rs 6,312. Our PTA estimate uses a stored reference rate (Rs 278, April 2026); the rate at the time of customs assessment may differ.

Q4. How should overseas Pakistanis send money to Pakistan?

Use regulated channels — banks, licensed exchange companies, or SBP's Roshan Digital Account (RDA). According to SBP, banks have arranged with correspondent banks that transfer charges come to roughly $5 to $9 when the RDA bank's special BIC is used. Which service is cheapest changes from transfer to transfer — compare both the rate and the fee before sending.

Q5. Which currencies does TaxCalc PK's calculator convert?

11 currencies: USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SAR, AED, CAD, JPY, CNY, TRY and HKD — all to and from PKR. The rate comes from the day's reference feed; if the feed does not load, the calculator shows a stored reference rate and says so clearly.

Q6. Why does the dollar rate change so much in Pakistan?

In SBP's words, the trend in the exchange rate is "generally a reflection of external balance of payment position and other macroeconomic indicators" — that is, the balance of imports and exports, remittances, and foreign exchange reserves. In a flexible system, these effects show up directly in the rate.

Q7. Can an overseas Pakistani buy property in Pakistan? How much advance tax applies?

Yes. The section 236K advance tax on buying property is 1.25% for people on the Active Taxpayer List. Under clause (111AC) of Part IV of the Second Schedule to the Income Tax Ordinance, the higher non-filer rates for sections 236C and 236K (section 100BA and Tenth Schedule rule 1) do not apply to a non-resident individual holding a NICOP or Pakistan Origin Card — with or without an RDA. According to SBP's RDA page, property tax for RDA holders is charged under the Income Tax Ordinance as normal.

Q8. How is a Roshan Digital Account taxed?

According to SBP's RDA page, profit on non-resident Pakistanis' RDA deposits is tax-exempt. Profit on Naya Pakistan Certificates is not tax-free — it bears "full and final tax @ 10 percent". For shares and mutual funds, SBP's page gives its own separate final rates; check that page and your bank before investing.
